Councilor Em Ang is pushing for the holding of an annual run in Bacolod City, preferably every February, for a healthy and physically-active community.
The proposed Bacolod Run ordinance, approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod on first reading April 8, said there is a growing community of runners within the city, and the city government sees the great benefits of organizing an annual marathon.
“Cities that host annual marathon events enjoy a boost in the local economy, particularly hotels, restaurants, and retail stores, due to the influx of visitors, who either spectate or participate in such events,” Ang said.
As per the proposed ordinance, a Bacolod Run Council shall be created to plan, organize, and implement the Bacolod Run; determine the categories and prizes; secure necessary permits and licenses; and manage the finances of the Bacolod Run, among others.
Ang pushed for an initial P1 million funding to implement the ordinance. “Thereafter, an appropriation for the purpose shall be determine on an annual basis, according to the program’s prior year utilization report and other relevant indicators.” | CGC
