The activation of Police Regional Office-Negros Island Region has been tentatively scheduled on March 27.
However, the incoming police regional director has yet to be named by Camp Crame.
With its activation, the police provincial offices of Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental and Siquijor as well as the Bacolod City Police Office will now be under its supervision.
PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said earlier that some police personnel from the Area Police Command might be also transferred to the PRO-NIR.
In June last year, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. signed into law Republic Act 12000, which led to the establishment of the NIR administrative region comprising Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Siquijor and highly-urbanized Bacolod City.
In 2017, the PRO-NIR was deactivated following the abolition of the NIR, which was established then through an executive order, by the late President Benigno S. Aquino III.
NIR was abolished by his successor, then President Rodrigo Duterte. | GB
