Suspects in soldier’s shooting face charges

The two motorcycle-riding assailants tagged in the shooting of a Philippine Army soldier in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental on Feb. 17 are now facing a string of criminal charges.

The police charged Joebert Gimarangan, alias “Jojo”, and Alfie Raganas, alias “Dondon” with frustrated murder, illegal possession of firearms and explosives, and violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, according to the 79th Infantry Battalion.

Both were arrested by the police during a pursuit operation, after they shot Sgt. Alfort Tito, who is now in stable condition.

The backgrounds of the two suspects are still being checked by the San Carlos City Police Station.

Seized from the possession of Raganas were a fragmentation grenade, a KG 9 automatic pistol with a magazine, a motorcycle helmet, 162.67 grams of suspected shabu valued at P1.106 million and 2.47 grams of dried marijuana leaves.

Recovered from the possession of Gimarangan were a Remington caliber .45 pistol with four magazines containing 24 ammunition, a gun holster, P402 in cash, a sling bag and a motorcycle helmet. | GB
