The 6.1 intensity earthquake in Zamboanga was also felt in different areas in Negros Occidental, Irene Bel Ploteña, head of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division, said yesterday.

Intensity II was reported in Cauayan, Pulupandan, Hinigaran, Isabela, Ilog, Candoni and Valladolid while Intensity II to III was reported in Sipalay City.

Intensity I to II was monitored in Pontevedra and Binalbagan, and Intensity I, in Kabankalan City, San Enrique, and Hinobaan.

Ploteña said there were no incidents monitored as of press time.

A magnitude 5.4 earthquake that is tectonic in origin shook Zamboanga del Norte on Thursday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake, which Phivolcs initially reported as magnitude 6.1, struck five kilometers southeast of Siocon at 11:41 a.m.

It was 43 kilometers deep.

Reported intensity is the traditional way of knowing the intensity based on reports of people who felt the earthquake.

On the other hand, instrumental intensity is measured using an intensity meter that measures ground acceleration. | GB with PNA reports
