The air hung heavy with the scent of sulfur, a stark reminder of Mt. Kanlaon’s recent eruption.

The ashfall, a silent blanket of gray, had settled over Bago City, bringing with it a sense of uncertainty and hardship.

Negros Electric and Power Corp. (Negros Power), recognizing the immediate needs of the affected communities, extended a helping hand, offering a lifeline of essential supplies to those most in need.

Negros Power delivers basic needs of Kanlaon-affected residents in four barangays of Bago City, Negros Occidental.

In a press release, it said that four barangays – Ma-ao, Mailum, Ilijan, and Binubuhan – were chosen to receive the company’s assistance, a gesture of support that brought much-needed relief to approximately 1,000 residents.

Bottled water, a precious commodity in the wake of the ashfall, and face masks, a vital shield against harmful particles, were distributed to families struggling to cope with the eruption’s aftermath.

“We are struggling with shortage of clean water, especially for our infants,” Rola Sanico, a kagawad of Barangay Mailum, said.

Maricel Pe, Negros Power vice president for Customer Care, said the assistance is “a testament to Negros Power’s ongoing commitment to serving our customers, not just through electricity but through any means that can help them.”

“We are here for our communities, and we will always strive to be there for them in their time of need,” she added. ||
