Community care center for elderly eyed in Dumaguete

The local government unit of Dumaguete and the National Commission of Senior Citizens (Cluster 4) are open to further discussions on the establishment of a senior citizens community care center to enhance the delivery of services and further benefit the elderly of the city.

NCSC Cluster 4 officer-in-charge Jocelyn Tabotabo paid a courtesy call on Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo recently and discussed the possibility of establishing this care center that will serve as a one-stop shop for the elderly to avail of medical and nutrition services, issuance of OSCA ID, expanded centenarian and social pension payout, venue for livelihood training, as well as for regular meetings and social activities of the Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs.

If realized, the care center will be established in Barangay Talay where the City Health Office and OSCA are currently located.

The NCSC also commended Dumaguete for providing hospitalization and medical assistance; and longevity award of P10,000 to senior citizens, who reach the age of 80 and every five years thereafter, and P50,000 to those who reach 100 years old, in addition to the P100,000 from DSWD, among other benefits for the seniors, the city said.

Present during the meeting were City Administrator Lilani Ramon, Councilor Jose Baldado, assistant city administrator Dr. Dinno Depositario, OSCA head Enriquita Binondo Alcaide, FSCAP president Jun Dizon, and NCSC personnel Agnes Modesta Sabaldan and Kyriacos Louca Jr., among others. ||
