President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has signed into law Republic Act 12070, which establishes the Victorias City General Hospital in Negros Occidental.

Former Negros Occidental Third District Rep. Jose Francisco Benitez, who is now the director general of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, authored the creation of the P500-million Victorias City General Hospital at the House of Representatives.

The bill was authored by Senator Christopher Lawrence Go in the Senate.

Benitez earlier said that the establishment of the Victorias City General Hospital will provide Victoriasanons and nearby residents of the Third District wider access to affordable and quality healthcare, and most importantly help save lives in times of medical emergencies.

Aside from the creation of Victorias City General Hospital, Marcos also signed into law three other measures seeking to establish and upgrade hospitals in Guimaras, Bataan and Laguna.

Under the new laws, the Secretary of Health is mandated to include in the Department of Health’s program the funding needed for the upgrade and establishment of these hospitals.

Copies of the new laws were posted on the Official Gazette and shared on social media Wednesday. | GB with PNA reports
