The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office in Negros Oriental organized a transformative two-day training of trainers for former rebels starting Oct. 10 in Dumaguete City.

The training was aimed at equipping trainers with essential facilitation and management skills vital for guiding former rebels through their transition process.

This as Governor Chaco Sagarbarria said that successful reintegration requires more than mere acceptance; it demands a comprehensive support system to empower individuals with necessary tools to successfully navigate societal challenges.

“By focusing on the development of trainers, the program seeks to create a sustainable framework for mentorship and guidance, ensuring lasting impacts on the lives of the former rebels,” the Capitol said in a press release.

During the training, participants engaged in various skill-building exercises and discussions that focused on psychological support, conflict resolution, and community engagement strategies.

It was attended by B/Gen. Joey Escanillas, commander of the Army’s 302nd Infantry Brigade based in Tanjay City, among other officials of the Armed Forces of the Philippines and other stakeholders.

“Through meticulously-designed modules, trainers were equipped to address the unique needs of these individuals, fostering a sense of belonging and purpose,” the Capitol said. “The emphasis was not only on practical skills but also on the emotional and psychological resilience required to face the complexities of reintegration.”

This initiative extends beyond immediate benefits to participants; it signifies a broader commitment to peace-building and social harmony within Negros Oriental, the Capitol said.

Former rebels, now integrated into communities, can contribute positively to local development, thus transforming their narratives from conflict to constructive citizenship, it added.

Under Governor Chaco’s direction, the training of trainers was an essential step toward the reintegration of former rebels into society for rehabilitation. “It is consistent with the idea of a more progressive and inclusive society in which people can choose to create new paths toward a better future, regardless of their background.” ||
