Bago City Mayor Nicholas Yulo said Sept. 28 that he is set to file his Certificate of Candidacy (COC) as 4th District board member (BM) of the Negros Occidental Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Oct. 1.

Yulo said that he and Paola Alonso Valderrama, daughter of incumbent 4th District BM Jose Benito “Joeben” Alonso, will file their COCs at the social hall of the Provincial Capitol in Bacolod City.

The mayor said he will bring to the SP his vast experiences as three-termer mayor and three-termer vice mayor of Bago. “I will bring the voice of the 4th District to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.”

He also said he will support the bid for congressman of 4th District, of Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, as he noted a very strong alliance of parties in Negros Occidental, and stressed that, in politics, “relationships are important”.

The COC filing for the May 12, 2025 midterm elections is from Oct. 1 to 8, the Commission on Elections said.

The Comelec, meanwhile, suspended the issuance of voter certifications and registration records for today, Sept. 30, to focus on the final day of registration nationwide.

The Comelec en banc, in a resolution promulgated Sept. 25, announced that the temporary suspension would allow local election offices to prioritize applicants on the last day of registration.

“After due deliberation, the Commission en banc, by virtue of the powers vested in it by the Constitution, the Omnibus Election Code, the Administrative Code of 1987, and other relevant statutes, resolves to suspend the issuance of voter certifications and voter registration records on Sept. 30, in all Offices of Election Officers (OEOs) nationwide, to ensure they can cater to all applicants within their jurisdiction and maintain order during the final day of voter registration,” the resolution said.
