Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Benitez ordered the Philippine Flag to be flown at half-mast for five days, starting Sept. 9, as a sign of the city’s collective mourning and respect for the passing of former Negros Occidental governor Daniel “Bitay” Lacson Jr.

“Let this act serve as a humble tribute to Lacson’s lifelong commitment to public service and to the significant contributions he made to our community and the nation at large,” Benitez said in Executive Order 148.

He said that Lacson’s life and service serve as an inspiration to the younger generation, embodying the values of integrity, leadership, and dedication to public service.

“Lacson was a dedicated public servant, who faithfully served the people of Negros Occidental and the nation; his exemplary leadership, particularly when he was governor, had a profound impact on the province’s development,” the EO stressed.

The mayor also noted that Lacson served as chairman of the Philippine National Bank and the Government Service Insurance System, “where he provided outstanding stewardship and was instrumental in the effective management of these institutions, thereby contributing to the financial stability of the country.”

Lacson passed away due to an illness at his family home in Bacolod City Sept. 6. He was 77. The wake is being held at Acropolis Gardens in Barangay Bata, Bacolod, until tomorrow, Sept. 10. | CGC
