Two rebels die in Sipalay clashes

Two suspected members of the New People’s Army were killed yesterday during two separate armed clashes with the Philippine Army in Brgy. Camindangan, Sipalay City, Negros Occidental.

Brig. Gen. Joey Escanillas, 302nd Infantry Brigade commander, said that the first encounter took place in Sitio Bactolon, Brgy. Camindangan, Sipalay City, between 15th Infantry Battalion soldiers and about seven rebels, believed to be remnants of the dismantled South West Front of the Komiteng Rehiyonal Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siqujior.

Escanillas said that a certain Regie Fundador, a member of the Special Partisan unit of the NPA, died in the first encounter,

Pursuing Army soldiers figured in another clash with the fleeing rebels in Sitio Cambugi of the same barangay, which led to the death of another rebel identified by the Philippine Army as a certain Ian.

Assorted firearms left behind by the fleeing rebels were recovered by the 15IB soldiers.

The two encounters took place following a gunbattle on July 29 in Brgy. Basak, Cauayan, where a suspected rebel identified as Ramon Enseniales, died.

A 12-gauge shotgun with ammunition and two fragmentation grenades were also recovered by Army soldiers. | GB
