Dengue cases in Western Visayas reached 2,124 in the first four months of this year, up by 11 percent compared to the 1,920 infections logged in the same period last year, the Department of Health in the region said April 12.

There were no new dengue fatalities, as of Apr. 6, and death count remains at three, the DOH Dengue and Malaria Program said in a post.

Provinces with the highest number of newly-reported dengue cases were Iloilo with 53 new cases, for a total of 654 infections; Aklan, 23 new cases (370 total); and Negros Occidental, 19 new cases (294 total).

Bacolod has two new cases, as of the March 31 to April 6 monitoring, or a total of 56 dengue infections since the start of this year.

There is an increased attack rate of dengue this year in the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Iloilo, and Guimaras, compared to last year, and 24 barangays in Western Visayas logged a clustering of dengue cases, the DOH said.

In Bacolod, the clustering of cases was noted in barangays Taculing and Estefania, the City Health Office earlier said. | CGC
