Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson wants a non-Negrense as the next police provincial director, with the imminent transfer of PCol. Leo Pamittan to another assignment, following completion of his two-year tour of duty.

Lacson, however, said “there is no rush for his end of tenure” as the Philippine National Police (PNP) national headquarters still  has to prepare for Pamittan’s next assignment.

He admitted that two senior police officials have already expressed interest in the position to be vacated by Pamittan.

What is important is that they will be recommended by the PNP, he said.

Lacson said he wants someone who is “dedicated to the police service”, aside from having the experience of being a police provincial director.

“Somebody who does not favor anyone, should be fair to all police officers in Negros. Not biased to anyone, will remain apolitical, and should not take sides, especially in times of election,” he added. “That’s basically who we had in the past three provincial police directors under my watch.”

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, under the leadership of Pamittan, was adjudged as the best provincial police office nationwide in 2023. | GB
