10,816 to take Bar exams

The Supreme Court said 10,816 candidates are expected to take the 2023 Bar examinations, on Sept. 17, 20, and 24, in Manila and 14 local testing centers in key areas in the country.

The Office of the 2023 Bar Chair said that 5,832 will be taking the examinations for the first time, while 4,984 are repeaters.

An estimated 2,571 Bar personnel are to be deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the Bar, including court officials, judges, personnel from the SC, Court of Appeals, the Sandiganbayan, the Court of Tax Appeals, first and second level courts, and lawyers in the government and private practice.

This year’s examinations are divided into six core subjects: Political and Public International Law (15%), Commercial and Taxation Laws (20%), Civil Law (20%), Labor Law and Social Legislation (10%), Criminal Law (10%), and Remedial Law, Legal and Judicial Ethics with Practical Exercises (25%), the SC said.

These core subjects were determined and approved by the Court en banc upon thoughtful review of previous syllabi and due consideration of the latest developments in legal practice.

The 14 testing centers are San Beda University-Manila, University of Santo Tomas, San Beda College Alabang, University of the Philippines Diliman, Manila Adventist College, UP Bonifacio Global City;

Saint Louis University in Baguio, Cagayan State University, University of Nueva Caceres, University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of San Carlos, Dr. V. Orestes Romualdez Educational Foundation, Ateneo de Davao University, and Xavier University.

The national headquarters of the 2023 Bar Examinations will be at the San Beda College Alabang in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Supreme Court Associate Justice Ramon Paul Hernando, chairperson of the 2023 Bar Examinations, said the Office of the Bar Chair has been daily and closely monitoring the applicants’ responses and feedback on all the court’s releases regarding the examinations. ||
