The Social Security System (SSS) Bacolod and three barangays of the highly-urbanized city recently inked memoranda of agreement for the social protection of their job order and contract of service workers.
SSS Bacolod assistant branch head Gerard Gonzales and Singcang-Airport punong barangay Rosinie Distrito signed the MOA March 31, so that JOs and COS workers in the barangay not covered by the Government Service Insurance System benefits will be registered as self-employed members of SSS.
The barangay shall remit regularly their SSS contribution through a salary deduction scheme.
“We believe that forging partnerships with barangays is one of the many effective and possible ways to bring SSS closer to our members,” SSS Bacolod branch head Sheila Galeno said in a press release April 11.
She expressed hope that other local government units and barangays will also partner with the state insurer in providing SSS services in their communities.
Agreements were also signed for the social security coverage of JOs and COS workers in Brgy. 10 and Taculing, in Bacolod, and Brgy. Zone 10 in Talisay City, Negros Occidental.
Taculing punong barangay Lady Gles Pallen, who is also the president of the Bacolod Liga ng mga Barangay, entered into a similar accord with SSS March 21 for the coverage of the JO workers, and joined the launching of the “E-center sa Barangay”.
The initiative is part of the pension fund’s digitalization efforts. SSS Bacolod shall train barangay personnel who will assist members on how to do online transactions through their My.SSS accounts while computers and internet access will be provided by the barangay.
E-centers have already been launched in barangays Singcang-Airport in Bacolod, and Dos Hermanas, Katilingban, Balaring, San Fernando, and Zone 14, all in neighboring Talisay City in Negros Occidental.
Interested barangays may contact SSS Bacolod at 435-2797 to 98, or via email at bacolod@sss.gov.ph. ||
