Eleven public elementary and high schools in Negros Occidental will take part in the limited in-person classes starting Dec. 6.

Romeo Sison, head of the Schools Governance Division of the Negros Occidental Schools Division Office, said the schools under the Division of Negros Occidental were selected to participate in the gradual implementation of the limited face to face classes after the whole of Region 6 was placed under Alert Level 2 by the national Inter-Agency Task Force.

The participating schools are Alangilan National High School for the Bacolod City Schools Division, Hiyang Hiyang Elementary School for the Cadiz City Division, Mabini NHS for the Escalante City Division, Raymundo T. Tongson NHS under the Himamaylan City Division, Valladolid NHS and Aguntilang ES in Isabela town for the Negros Occidental Schools Division;

Colonia Divina Integrated School for the Sagay City Division, Don Carlos Ledesma NHS under the San Carlos City Division, Patag Diotay ES for the Silay City Division, the Mauboy ES for the Sipalay City Division, and the Victorias NHS under the Victorias City Schools Division Office.

They are among the 17 public institutions in Western Visayas, and of the 177 public schools nationwide that were allowed by the Department of Education to participate in the in-person classes starting Monday.

Sison added the school heads and division representatives presented their implementation plans before the DepEd 6 in Iloilo Dec. 2.

Only a limited number of students per school can participate in the in-person classes. For grades 1 to 3, there will only be 16 students per classroom and up to 20 students each classroom for junior and senior high schools.

Only students living within walking distance to the school can join the face to face classes to avoid the involvement of the transport sector. The rest of the students will continue with the distance learning approach, meaning the blended learning will remain even with the resumption of in-person classes, Sison said.

The local governments where these participating schools are located will also monitor the implementation of the guidelines of in-person classes, as set by the DepEd as a member of the national IATF. — MML
