The Dumaguete Office of Senior Citizens Affairs said that about 745 senior citizens aged 80 to 99 years old have already received P10,000 each as longevity award, from January to Nov. 4 this year, for a total of P7.4 million.
Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said that this longevity award is granted to residents pursuant to a local ordinance as additional benefit for those in their 80s to 90s that could help in their maintenance needs, and as token of appreciation to the elderly, who contributed to the growth and progress of the city.
Personnel of the City Treasurer’s Office would come and visit the elderly beneficiaries if they are no longer mobile, while those who are still capable of walking can claim their cash aid at the City Hall.
Under the program, a senior citizen who reaches the age of 80 years old will be eligible to receive the longevity award in the amount of P10,000, and once every five years thereafter, from the local government.
Upon reaching the age of 100 years old, the senior citizen will be entitled to P50,000 longevity award from the city government, in addition to the P100,000 from the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Qualified senior citizens of Dumaguete, who would like to claim their longevity award, can process their documents before the OSCA in Barangay Talay for inclusion in the payout, the city said Nov. 5.
Aside from the longevity award, Remollo said that qualified senior citizens in Dumaguete are also entitled to other programs and services, such social pension, free movie pass, medical and hospitalization assistance, burial assistance (free casket and embalming), mortuary assistance, unconditional cash transfer, and the Pamaskong Handog. ||
