57 gun ban violators arrested in W. Visayas

The Police Regional Office (PRO)-6 reported the arrest of 57 violators in Western Visayas six weeks after the implementation of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) gun ban.

Based on the report, 56 firearms and six gun replicas were seized from the violators during the period Jan. 12 to Feb. 23.

The Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office arrested 17; Iloilo Police Provincial Office, 11; Capiz Police Provincial Office, nine; Bacolod City Police Office, seven; Iloilo City Police Office, four; Aklan and Guimaras Police Provincial Office, three each; Regional Mobile Force Battalion, two; and Antique Police Provincial Office, one.

The conduct of the Comelec checkpoint to implement the gun ban is pursuant to Republic Act Number 7166 or An Act Providing for Synchronized National and Local Elections and for Electoral Reforms, Authorizing Appropriations Therefor, and for Other Purposes and Comelec Resolution No. 11067 promulgated on Sept. 25, 2024.

In a statement, PBrig. Gen. Jack Wanky, police regional director of Western Visayas, lauded the police commanders and their personnel across the region for firmly implementing the Comelec checkpoints in close coordination and collaboration with the Joint Security Control Center member-agencies.

Wanky, however, reminded them to strictly adhere to police operational procedure policies and related guidelines during the conduct of the Comelec checkpoints with utmost courtesy and respect to commuters and motorists. | GB
