Over 10,000 runners are expected to participate in the highly-anticipated Bacolod leg of the 50th National Milo Marathon on Sunday, Oct. 4.

Dubbed “50 Years of Building Champions. One Legacy”, the milestone event, known as “The Golden Run”, will transform the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds into a vibrant hub of athletic excellence and community spirit.

As one of only 15 races organized across the nation to celebrate the running industry’s most iconic grassroots series, the Bacolod leg holds special significance.

This undertaking underscores Mayor Greg Gasataya’s commitment to youth empowerment, sports development, and community welfare, while advancing the shared civic goals of the participating organizations.

Secretary to the mayor, Atty. Jose Marty Go, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event and invited residents across the city to participate.

“We are very happy to host the Milo Marathon here in Bacolod, especially during this special 50th anniversary year,” Go said in a city press release Sept. 30. “It is a wonderful opportunity for our city to gather, support our young athletes, and celebrate health and wellness together. Whether you are aiming for a personal best or simply walking with your family and friends, we welcome everyone to join us at the BCGC grounds this Sunday and be part of this great tradition.”

Demonstrating a firm commitment to public safety and a seamless event experience, key departments of the local government unit, including the Bacolod Traffic and Transport Management Department, City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and the Bureau of Fire Protection convened Sept. 29 together with LCF Events PH, to finalize the comprehensive plans for security, emergency response, and overall traffic management.

Road closures will be strictly implemented along the designated race routes, specifically from the traffic light crossing at Doña Juliana stretching towards Burgos Extension near Don Bosco to ensure safety. Motorists are advised to plan alternative routes during the early hours of Sunday to avoid delays.

The marathon features a variety of distances tailored for different skill levels, all starting and finishing at the BCGC grounds.

The premier 21K half-marathon will commence with a gun start at 4:30 a.m., taking runners along Burgos Avenue towards Granada-Alangilan Road with a U-turn at Mommy’s Place.

The 10K run follows at 5 a.m., with its designated U-turn situated at the San Miguel Brewery. For shorter distances, the 3K run begins at 5:30 a.m., turning at the corner of Burgos Extension and Gonzaga Avenue North, while the 5K run starts at 5:35 a.m., looping back ninety meters before the Metro Bacolod Hospital.

Through this event, Bacolod continues to solidify its reputation as a champion of health, dynamic civic engagement, and unity, the city added. ||
