The 38-year-old Cadiz City Public Library (CCPL) has innovated anew to remain relevant amid digitalization.
Following its recent face-lift from one to a three-storey, glass-covered building, CCPL, compared to its first renovation in 2001, is no longer just an ordinary library, but an innovative learning hub.
Aside from traditional books, it now boasts of digital labs and robotics kits. Its fully functional e-library offers access to digital research tools and internet-connected computers, useful for learners without personal devices.

Anyone – regardless of age – bookworms or digital-savvy – can visit CCPL to read, do research, or access robotics kits.
“This is for Cadizeños. This is for everyone, who intends to expand their knowledge either through the traditional way of reading books, or the modern way of just letting the tips of their fingers browse through digital screens just to know everything around the globe,” Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. said in a press release.
“Endeavoring the upgrade of this library is another fulfilled mission for the city government in, once again, taking care of the future of our constituents attuned to the present time,” Escalante added.
For city librarian Angel Mae Puyos, the CCPL now is more than just a building. “It’s a symbol, and a reminder that no matter how advanced our technology becomes, the foundation of learning will always be rooted in knowledge, perseverance, and curiosity.”
CCPL was built in 1987, rebuilt in 2001, and reimagined this 2025.
In an era where screens – big or small – have taken over the pages of books and resulted in the closure of several libraries across the country, CCPL refuses to succumb.
Reimagining CCPL amid digital evolution was a noteworthy mission to accomplish, Escalante stressed. “For the sake Cadizeños will to always better their future, the city government will never rest in innovating, or creating significant and relevant investment aimed at boosting everyone’s knowledge to make them techy and future-ready.” ||
