Three Catholic bishops have expressed their strong support to the move of the Negros Occidental provincial government to address the climate and energy crisis, following the launch of SecuRE Negros campaign on Feb. 5.
In a collegial statement signed by Bishop Patricio Buzon of the Diocese of Bacolod, Bishop Gerardo Alminaza of the Diocese of San Carlos and Bishop Louie Galbines of the Diocese of Kabankalan, it said that they are giving their united support to the SecuRE Negros campaign that “aims to ensure the just energy transition and increase the energy security of the province of Negros Occidental”.
“We recognize the urgency of addressing environmental degradation and the adverse effects of climate change, which disproportionately affect the poor and vulnerable among us,” the three Negros bishops said.
They added that “the transition to renewable energy is not only an environmental imperative but also a morale one.”
By supporting the SecuRE Negros campaign, the Negros bishops said “we are advocating for policies that prioritize the common good, respect for human dignity, and the promotion of a more equitable society.” | GB
