24 Army soldiers get medals for gallantry

The Armed Forces of the Philippines Visayas Command (Viscom) has recognized the gallantry of 24 Army soldiers assigned in Negros and Bohol islands, during awarding rites separately held Tuesday, Sept. 12, in Tanjay City, Negros Oriental, and Murcia in Negros Occidental.

Lt. Gen. Benedict Arevalo, Viscom chief, bestowed the Gold Cross medals to 10 Army soldiers, while 14 others were conferred with Silver Cross medals.

Of the 10 Gold Cross medal recipients, five were junior military officers – two each from the 94th and 47th Infantry Battalions, and one from the 62IB.

Five enlisted personnel were also awarded with the same medal, with two each from the 94IB and 47IB, and one from the 62IB.

The Silver Cross medal awardees were five junior officers – two from the 94IB and three from the 62IB, and nine enlisted personnel, with four from the 94IB and five from the 79IB.

In a statement, Maj. Gen. Marion Sison, 3ID commander, said the conferment of medals on deserving Army soldiers “is a testament of your unwavering commitment to fostering peace and progress in Western and Central Visayas”.

Sison also thanked Arevalo for acknowledging the unrelenting dedication of the 3ID in their relentless anti-insurgency operations in Western and Central Visayas./GB
