A total of 10,000 Marikina residents and their families, who were evacuated at the height of the floods brought about by heavy rains from Typhoon Carina and the southwest monsoon (habagat), will receive P5,000 each in financial aid this week, under the Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

At the same time, 10,000 relief packs facilitated by the offices of Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez and Tingog Partylist Reps. Yedda Romualdez and Jude Acidre from DSWD will be given to flood victims, in close coordination with the office of Marikina City Rep. Stella Quimbo.

“Nagtala ang Marikina City ng pinakamaraming evacuees sa pagbaha sanhi ng Typhoon Carina. At hangad ng ating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. na ipadama sa inyo na ang pamahalaan ay handang tumulong sa oras ng kalamidad,” the Speaker said in a press release from his office.

Families affected by the widespread flooding in the National Capital Region last week received food packs and other assistance from the government.

News reports indicate that Marikina recorded the highest number of evacuees amid the onslaught of habagat as enhanced by Typhoon Carina, at 31,128, which is more than the nearly 29,000 people evacuated in 2009 during Typhoon Ondoy.

The Tingog Partylist and the Office of the Speaker initially distributed hot meals in barangays Malanday and Jesus Dela Peña, Marikina City July 24.

Acidre led the distribution of hot meals through the Tingog mobile kitchen.

Metro Manila, including Marikina City, has been placed under a state of calamity due to flooding.

Romualdez said his office as well as the offices of other House members are doing everything to bring aid to the affected people. ||
