Meanwhile, Silay City has the most number of active cases with 10, while San Carlos City, which used to be the topnotcher, only has seven.

From March 27 last year to February 22 this year, Negros Occidental has 6,788 confirmed cases, with 6,515 recoveries and 215 deaths.

Bacolod City has 61 active cases as of Monday, Feb. 22.

Meanwhile, the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force of Negros Oriental will launch what it called as a “massive information campaign” for COVID-19 vaccination.

The province-wide campaign hopes to increase acceptance of the government’s vaccination program, Dr. Liland Estacion, assistant provincial health officer, said.

She said there is a need for a massive information drive to erase the apprehensions of the residents about the vaccine, as she pointed out that in their own survey covering Negros Oriental’s 853 frontliners, 90 percent expressed willingness to be inoculated.

Ten percent are apprehensive, she disclosed.

The information drive hopes to correct “fake news” posted on social media focusing on the negative effects of the vaccine.

The PHO-Negros Oriental has identified the target group for the campaign in order to make them well aware of the right information on the benefits of the vaccine.

The provincial IATF also noted a downtrend of COVID positive cases as of Tuesday.

The province has a total of 1,638 positive cases.

Bacong, Sibulan, Dauin, Bais and La Libertad has one new case each, the PHO report said.

The local IATF reported 1,440 recoveries and 52 deaths, while 146 remain active.

LGUs with most number of active cases are Dumaguete, 55; Bayawan, 13; Bacong, 10 and Guihulngan, 9. – GB/MML
