Student formations and campus publications across Negros have formed the Students Alliance for Liberating Education (SALE) during a State of the Youth Address in Barangay Bata, Bacolod City, Aug. 8.
Formed alongside Kabataan Party-list Negros, the alliance brings together democratic student publications and student governments to push for educational reforms, and protect democratic spaces in schools.
The group said the launching was in response to escalating administrative oversight, rising tuition and educational costs, and ongoing restrictions on campus press freedom under the Marcos administration.
The alliance plans to drive coordinated campaigns, conduct research through social investigation and class analysis, lead policy advocacy, and foster inter-campus solidarity to campaign for a more accessible, scientific, and student-centered educational system.
The group also called for wider student participation across the region to defend students’ rights and academic liberty. | TMD
