Woman shot dead in Victorias; farmer burned to death in Cadiz

A 58-year-old woman was gunned down by a barangay tanod in Victorias City while a farmer was burned to death in Cadiz City, all in Negros Occidental on Tuesday, April 16.

The female victim, whose identity is being withheld by the police, was feeding her four-year-old grandson, when the suspect, who was armed with a caliber 357 Magnum revolver, came to her house in Hacienda Loreta Chang, Barangay 10, Victorias City.

A heated altercation ensued between the victim and the suspect, who was reportedly under the influence of liquor, which later led to a shooting incident, initial investigation of Victorias City Police Station showed.

The victim, who was injured in the chest, was declared dead on arrival at the Victorias City Emergency Clinic.

The suspect fled while the incident is still being investigated by the police.

Recovered from the scene of incident were a caliber 357 Magnum revolver, three fired cartridges, two misfired ammunition and two slugs of the same caliber.

Meanwhile, a 65-year-old farmer was accidentally burned alive in Sitio Cotcot, Barangay Mabini, Cadiz City.

Police investigation showed that the victim set on fire a sugarcane field before cultivating the land.

He died when he was trapped inside the burning canefield, the report added.

His body was discovered by his neighbor inside the canefield at about 3 p.m.

According to the Cadiz police, the victim died due to asphyxia secondary to multiple-degree burns. | GB
