The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines placed the Visayas grid on yellow alert status, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday, May 8.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s regulating and contingency requirement, the NGCP advisory said.

The alert was issued even as NGCP put the Luzon grid on red alert status, following the tripping of the Bolo-Masinloc 230 kV Line 2, which led to the tripping of the Masinloc Units 1&2.
The reduced generation supply in Luzon affected export to the Visayas grid, which resulted in the declaration of the yellow alert, the Department of Energy said in a statement as it called on the public to “exercise energy efficiency and conservation through the judicious use of electricity, especially during the peak hours”./CGC
