The Victorias City Social Welfare and Development Office facilitated the distribution of cash subsidies to 346 solo parents at the Barangay IX covered court Sept. 29.

The initiative is anchored on Republic Act 11861, or the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, which grants additional support and benefits to solo parents earning minimum wage or below.

The subsidy aims to assist solo parents with their essential expenses, such as education, healthcare, and daily cost of living, in a bid to ease the burden of child-rearing responsibilities, the city said.

Vice Mayor Derek Palanca was present during the distribution and expressed the city’s continued commitment to strengthening programs for solo parents, along with social welfare officer I Ricky Lapidante and solo parent program implementer and focal person Erna Bompat.

The activity was carried out in coordination with the City Treasurer’s Office, ensuring the smooth and organized distribution of financial assistance.

Through this program, Victorias City reaffirms its dedication to upholding the rights and welfare of solo parents, recognizing their sacrifices, and empowering them to provide a more secure and stable environment for their families.

The Victorias City Government Workers Organization (VCGWO), meanwhile, distributed five kilograms of rice each to 630 union members, at the lobby of Don Alejandro Acuña Yap Quiña Arts and Cultural Center Sept. 29.

The initiative, led by VCGWO president Dorlia Dela Peña, was in line with the 125th Philippine Civil Service anniversary, and highlighted the union’s efforts to honor the contribution of government workers and provide tangible support to its members.

The annual rice distribution is one of VCGWO’s continuing initiatives to extend support and recognition to its members for their hard work and dedication in serving the public, the city said. ||
