Unscheduled outages inconvenienced power consumers in Negros and Panay Islands Oct. 5 brought about by supply deficiency, after the power plants in Negros Oriental tripped, as per monitoring of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.
The power interruption affected the NGCP’s Bacolod-San Enrique and Bacolod-Alijis 69kV transmission lines (TL), and the Bacolod-Silay and Bacolod-Reclamation 69kV TL of the Central Negros Electric Cooperative, it added in an advisory.
Power was eventually restored to a portion of Ceneco’s coverage areas but to maintain the integrity of the transmission grid, the NGCP implemented manual load dropping, leaving some feeders still unenergized, the power cooperative said.
Ceneco said all feeders were online, as of 3:35 p.m.
Meanwhile, the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative Inc. said the NGCP emergency power interruption affected the Cadiz-Victorias 69kV Line and the whole coverage area of EB Magalona, Victorias, Manapla, and portion of Cadiz.
There was manual load dropping due to the NGCP power disturbance affecting some portion of Noneco’s coverage area, and the estimated time of power restoration has not been specified by the NGCP, an advisory from Noneco said.
Aside from Ceneco and Noneco, the Negros Occidental Electric Cooperative, Negros Oriental 1 Electric Cooperative Inc., Noreco II, More Power, Ileco I, Ileco II, Ileco III in Iloilo, the Capiz Electric Cooperative, Antique Electric Cooperative, Aklan Electric Cooperative, and Guimaras Electric Cooperative were also affected.
Noreco II said it initiated rotating power interruption starting at 1 p.m. Oct. 5 because the “NGCP has curtailed the load in its Amlan-Siaton 69kV transmission line, providing Noreco II with only up to 25-megawatt maximum load.”
The NGCP said it monitored the tripping of several power plants in Negros Oriental and Iloilo at 5:24 a.m., resulting in a significant supply deficiency in Negros and Panay.
“To maintain the integrity of the transmission grid, protection systems were activated and manual load dropping was implemented,” its advisory said. NGCP is waiting for the restoration schedule from the generating plants, and will be announced as soon as possible, it added. — CGC
