Two motorcyclists from La Castellana died in road accidents in Isabela and Moises Padilla, both in Negros Occidental, in the past two days.
A 22-year-old driver died after his motorcycle was rear-ended by a military troop carrier along the national road in Barangay Bulad, Isabela, Negros Occidental, at around 10 a.m. Sept. 23.
Initial investigation by the Isabela Municipal Police Station revealed that the Army vehicle’s brakes allegedly failed and hit the motorcycle in front.
The impact threw the passenger off the motorcycle, while its driver, a resident of Brgy. Robles, La Castellana town, was trapped under the vehicle and sustained fatal head injuries, the police said.
Moises Padilla Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) responders rushed the victim to the Isabela District Hospital but he was pronounced dead.
The driver from the 62nd Infantry Battalion, meanwhile, was taken into custody by the Isabela Municipal Police Station pending further investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, a 46-year-old businessman died while a minor female student sustained injuries, after the driver lost control of the motorcycle along the Magallon–Moises Padilla Provincial Road in Barangay Magallon Cadre, Moises Padilla Sept. 22.
The victims, both residents of Barangay Cabacungan, La Castellana, were traveling onboard a black Kawasaki Barako 175cc motorcycle from Moises Padilla proper toward Barangay Cabacungan at around 9:10 p.m. when the driver attempted to overtake another vehicle, causing the motorcycle to wobble.
The driver lost control of the vehicle, and both occupants were thrown onto the road. The driver suffered severe facial and body abrasions, while the student has minor scrapes on her left knee.
Moises Padilla DRRMO responders rushed both victims to the Isabela District Hospital but the driver was pronounced dead on arrival by an attending physician. The motorcycle was turned over to the Moises Padilla MPS for proper disposition. | TMD
