The tent city in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental that will serve as temporary shelter for Mt. Kanlaon evacuees is on its way to completion as 300 of the 395 family tents have already been established.
Located in Sitio Bingig, Barangay 3, the site has three common toilet and bath areas as well as three water tanks installed as of Feb. 14 through the efforts of the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) with support from the city government.
The installation of electrical facilities is also underway.
As the unrest of the volcano continues, a total of 2,760 families, comprising 8,803 individuals, are still staying in 23 evacuation centers while 3,028 displaced families, composed of 9,760 individuals, are staying in other shelters.
The tent city is designated to house evacuees from the neighboring local government units should the alert level for Kanlaon Volcano escalate.
Additional evacuation centers are being eyed in the cities of Victorias, Silay, Bacolod and San Carlos in Negros Occidental, and Guihulngan in Negros Oriental in case of another eruption.
