Members of the Talisay City Inter-Agency Task Force recently convened to recalibrate its strategic plans against the coronavirus disease 2019 after 42 new cases were logged on May 5.
The one-day result has alarmed the city and prompted Mayor Neil Lizares to convene all members of the local IATF to recalibrate their plans due to the recent surge of COVID confirmed cases.

The May 5 result was one of the highest for Talisay City since the start of the pandemic. The highest one-day record was logged on September 7, 2020 at 47, and 43 on September 25.
From February 1-9, 2021, the City only recorded one active case, but in the first week of May, it logged 100 active infections.
The City has two isolation facilities, Jeofrey Gutierrez of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said. But these are already full and they are preparing the standby facilities in case of another surge, he added.
Last week, the City ordered the closure of side entrances to the public market to ensure the safety of marketgoers and vendors. Lizares also reminded Talisaynons to strictly comply with the health protocols, especially when in public places.
On Saturday, the mayor ordered the reopening of the entrance to the vegetable section after the COVID cases had gone down to single digits on May 6 and 7.
Of the 27 barangays, 10 are COVID free. Barangay Zone 12-A has the most number of active cases with 31, followed by Barangay Zone 15 with 13, and Barangay Zone 1 with nine active cases. As of May 9, Talisay City has 895 positive cases, with 764 recoveries, and 31 COVID deaths. –MML
