Talisay City Hall worker shot dead

A local government employee was shot to death by an unidentified assailant at his residence in Carmela Valley Subdivision, Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Tuesday (March 5).

Police identified the victim as Mike Lumawag, 45, a personnel of the Talisay City Treasurer’s Office Land Tax Division.

Lumawag, a person with disability, succumbed to multiple injuries.

The gunman fired at him while he was opening the gate of his residence, after bringing his child to school.

Mayor Neil Lizares ordered the Talisay City police to immediately identify and arrest the suspect behind the killing of Lumawag, whom he described as a hardworking employee.

Investigators are looking into personal grudge and work-related angles.

In a statement posted on the city’s Public Information Office Facebook page, Lizares said he extends his my heartfelt condolences to the Lumawag family.

“Please know that I am one with you in seeking justice. This kind of senseless killing and similar actions that pose threats to the Talisaynons have no place in our community,” he added.

Several bullet shells of still undetermined caliber of firearm were recovered by the police at the scene of incident. | GB
