The suspect in the rape-slay of a 17- year-old girl from Cadiz City, Negros Occidental was arrested yesterday by policemen in Barangay Tampalon, Kabankalan City.

Federico Delfin Jr., 62, is now locked up at the Cadiz City Police Station custodial facility.

He is facing charges for rape with homicide.

Delfin is the father of the stepfather of the victim, a senior high school student, who was found naked and dead in a sugarcane field at Purok Masinulondon, Barangay Magsaysay, about 300 meters from their residence, on Jan. 8.

The victim, who was reported missing on Jan. 7, succumbed to multiple hack injuries.

A 24-inch bolo with a scabbard was recovered by the police at the crime scene.

Medical examination showed that she was molested, according to the police.

In a statement, Mayor Salvador Escalante Jr. yesterday commended the  city police led Lt. Col. John Joel Batusbatusan for the speedy arrest of the suspect.

“It is sad to note that such brutal crime happened beyond our control,” he said.

The mayor said he is entrusting to the police the quest for justice of the victim’s family. | GB
