The Sangguniang Panlungsod concurred with the decision of Mayor Alfredo Benitez to appoint Atty. Karol Joseph Chiu as city legal officer (CLO) of Bacolod effective Dec. 18, with a monthly compensation rate of P121,416.
Chiu, who has been secretary to the mayor (STTM) since Benitez assumed office in June 2022, was promoted as CLO, following the resignation of Atty. Romeo Carlos Ting Jr. effective Dec. 17.
During his appearance at the SP session this morning, Dec. 18, Chiu assured the sanggunian members that he will be a “city legal officer for the city”, and will work for the betterment of Bacolod.
Chiu was admitted to the Bar in 2008 and had been a practicing lawyer before his appointment as STTM.
He finished his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Bachelor of Laws degrees from the University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, his secondary education from La Consolacion College-Bacolod, and primary education from ETCS 1. He is one of the lawyers at Chiu Tanoso Malan Mayo Cua Law Office.
Chiu and Ting, along with Atty. Pacifico “Boyet” Maghari III, erstwhile city administrator, were among the first appointees of Benitez. | CGC
