Three students of St. John’s Institute (SJI) were commended by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod Sept. 2 for winning medals in international math competitions.
The SP, in a unanimous resolution, lauded Annette Tiffany Yu for being named champion and a gold awardee in the Secondary 1 Division of the Hong Kong International Mathematical Olympiad (HKIMO) 2026 finals, held in Sha Tin, Hong Kong, and for receiving a merit award in the 2026 Mongolia International Mathematics Competition in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
Miguel Yee and Patrick Jayden Chen were also commended for receiving the gold award in the 22nd International Mathematics Competition Singapore, and the bronze award in the individual round of the Singapore International Math Olympiad Challenge 2026, respectively.
These remarkable accomplishments demonstrate exceptional talent in mathematics and bring pride and distinction not only to their families and school but also to the City of Bacolod and the Philippines, the three resolutions, authored by Councilor Bobby Rojas, stressed.
The SP deems it fitting and proper to commend Yu, Yee, and Chen for their outstanding achievements that can serve as inspiration to the youth of Bacolod, encouraging them to pursue excellence, develop their talents, and strive for greater feats.
“Achievements such as these inspire the youth of Bacolod to pursue excellence in education and develop their abilities and talents in mathematics, science, and other academic fields,” the SP added. | CGC
