Is it too early for me to greet you a Merry Christmas?

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year; no one can change my mind. The surreal feeling, the aesthetic, the cozy atmosphere and the overall mood – Christmas is the most superior celebration that the humanity observes.

All of the aspects of Christmas are truly magical, that’s why I start my Christmas early. The earlier, the better, right? If people would normalize my obsession, for the lack of a better term, I would probably start celebrating Christmas as soon as January hits. Unfortunately, it would look weird to some or maybe most, so I became your stereotypical Pinoy with a CHAROT – Christmas Hyper Anticipation Reflex – Overly Triggered. It is a coined term by a meme based company – PGAG. As soon as September strikes, expect me singing a ballad of Christmas songs to you, from OPM classics down to EDM — Dub step club remixes. Honey, I’ll probably be banging my head ‘cause it’s my jam.

Speaking of music, did you know that Christmas is actually a genre of music? Probably it is, but maybe, not truly affirmative. Still, what song dominates during BER-months? Of course, Christmas it is. Who cannot jam with Mariah Carey’s iconi-que “All I Want For Christmas” or Jose Mari Chan’s “Christmas In Our Hearts”, I bet no one.  To be frank, Christmas songs actually contribute the most on why I like Christmas. The holiday vibes that these songs exude, chef’s kiss. A classic song emanates nostalgia, from…Chestnuts roasting on the open fire…down to…It’s the most wonderful time of the year.., they make me reminisce of a White Christmas I’ve never had.

I’ve been tiptoeing on some songs and name dropping here and there but I haven’t really opened up about my sheer fascination of the masterpiece, “Last Christmas” by Wham! Gosh, talking about this song makes me feel those entire Christmas love story I never had.

Christmas takes a toll on me, especially, its aesthetic. All those twinkling lights, lushes of green trees adorned with sparkles and flowers and of course the vibrant colors that just dances on my eyes, imprinted on my brain. Growing up, every season of Yuletide, my neighborhood is assiduous in putting ornate decorations and light shows. Almost entire fences and trees are festooned with flowers and illumination. It was a Christmas Wonderland. So every year, I always look forward to this, but unfortunately, this festive atmosphere slowly diminishes every year. Well, people still put decorations but not as majestic and eccentric as my childhood.

It makes me sad, but rather than mopping, as I became older I started to take over the house’s decorations. As much as I can, I will decorate the heck out of my house just to exude that authentic big Christmas energy.

There’s more a lot to converse about my favorite holiday. From its feel to overall aesthetic, Christmas is truly memorable and fun. However, it is not the true meaning of Christmas. I admit, I do sometimes forget that Christmas is not about the songs, the food, decors and such, but rather it is about the birth of the Messiah and the dawn of His teachings.

We can celebrate Christmas, without all of this embellishment, or we can celebrate year round as long as we acknowledge its true meaning and essence.

But well, who I am to judge. I’m just a simple boy using my voice to raise awareness that reciprocates as rants and raves. – NWI
