The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office 6 is accepting applications from colleges and universities in Bacolod City that want to resume in-person classes for Hospitality Management and Engineering Technology courses.

CHEd focal person Arnold Arceno said that since Bacolod City and Negros Occidental are under Alert Level 2, school administrators can directly submit the applications to their office so that an evaluation can be made early since the second semester for school year 2021-2022 will start in January.

Arceno added that aside from the University of St. La Salle, CHEd also approved the conduct of face to face classes for health allied courses of the Colegio San Agustin Bacolod.

The University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos and Riverside College are expected to submit their applications anytime, he said.

CHEd has earlier approved face to face classes in Southland College in Kabankalan City and the Northern Negros State College for Science and Technology in Sagay City.

Aside from medical courses, like medicine and nursing, both schools also hold in-person classes for Hospital Management and Engineering Technology courses. But Arceno said they have to seek permission for in-person classes for nonmedical courses since there is a separate guidelines and evaluation.

The USLS schools of Medicine and Nursing started limited in-person classes Nov. 22 in retrofitted laboratory rooms. There are 10 students in one classroom for lectures, and one teacher for two nursing students in the laboratory room. The College of Medicine has a similar set-up.

USLS president, Bro. Joaquin Martinez, said the students were very excited on the first day of the in-person classes. He said that an actual experience, particularly in the laboratories, is different considering that they are the future medical frontliners and they need to master their skills.

The school implemented what was required by the Inter-Agency Task Force to ensure that health and safety protocols are followed, inside and outside of the classrooms, he added. — MML
