The Chamber of Associate Justice Marvic Mario Victor Leonen has reached out to the Office of Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia to relay the request of the Supreme Court to ban political and election-related materials mentioning the 2020/2021 Bar examinations.

In a letter addressed to the Mayor, Leonen said the Bar examinations is a constitutionally-mandated task of the Supreme Court and has the exclusive authority to regulate admission to the practice of law.

The Bar examinations, therefore, is a “court function which should be carried out with respect and authority.”

“In line with this, we would like to request the prohibition on posting of political and election-related materials, such as tarpaulins and posters, which mention or refer to the 2020/2021 Bar Examinations,” Leonen said in a press release from the city Jan. 28.

Leonen, who also sits as the chairperson of the 2020/2021 Bar examinations, said he hopes that the request will be taken into consideration by the election candidates and the city government of Bacolod.

“Ultimately, our goal is the success of the Bar Examinations and this can be achieved by maintaining an orderly and cordial Bar Examinations,” he added.

The 2020/2021 Bar examinations is scheduled on Feb. 4-6, 2022 in various venues, including at the University of Saint La Salle in Bacolod. |NND
