The local government of San Carlos City, through its City Environment Management Office (CEMO), received a plaque of recognition as one of the participants in the World Widelife Fund for Nature – One Planet City Challenge (WWF- OPCC) on Dec. 9.
The virtual awarding ceremony via Zoom was attended by CEMO personnel, headed by Engr. Arthur Batomalaque, Solid Waste Management/Pollution Control Division head, along with City Administrator, Atty. Estefanio Libutan Jr.
The OPCC recognizes the initiatives and commitments of cities around the world that intend to accelerate the shift towards a climate resilient economy and a low-carbon future.
Batomalaque said there is a need for the city to establish policies and ordinances on programs that promote renewable energy in every household, and consider the creation of bike lanes on city streets.
Libutan thanked the WWF for noticing the efforts of the city. He said the recognition will serve as an inspiration for the local government unit to exert more efforts to reach its goals.
San Carlos City, together with the cities of Makati and Pasig, represented the Philippines in a similar challenge in 2018. – NWI
