The local government of San Carlos City and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources inaugurated the multi-purpose training center, worth P3.3 million, at the Reclamation Area in Brgy. 6 Oct. 11.
The multipurpose building phase 1, which includes a storage facility, powerhouse, and guardhouse, is situated on a 1,000 square-meter of land.
The local government allocated P3.314 million for its construction from its 20 percent Development Fund, with City Planning and Development Coordinator’s Office (CPDCO) Engineer Roeder Amigable as overseer.
The DENR had been operating from a temporary building within the Motorpool area in Sitio Talave, Brgy. Punao, the city said.
Provincial Environment and Natural Resources officer-in-charge, Engr. Joan Nathaniel Gerangaya, showed appreciation for the new facility, saying its location is strategic to better serve their areas of responsibility.
He added that any issue that can’t be resolved within the local office would be escalated to the provincial office for further attention.
Gerangaya thanked the San Carlos City government, especially Mayor Renato Gustilo, for the continued support to DENR initiatives.
CPDCO Engr. Magnolia Antonio shared her hopes that the new center could eventually serve as a regional office once the Negros Island Region is officially established. This move, she emphasized, would be a great privilege for San Carlos City.
Meanwhile, Amigable said the project’s second phase will focus on site development, including the concreting of pathways and erecting a fence around the facility next year.
DENR-CENRO Cadiz head Rene Abordo, and representatives of various local government units in Negros Occidental were also present during the inauguration. ||
