San Carlos, Calatrava ink MOA on training of women

San Carlos City and the municipality of Calatrava in Negros Occidental launched with partner groups a joint project called the Artificial Intelligence Data Annotation (AIDA) July 2 at the San Carlos city auditorium.

A memorandum of agreement for the project implementation was also signed by San Carlos Mayor Renato Gustilo, Calatrava Mayor Marilyn Era, Aboitiz Foundation chief operation officer Mardi Mapa-Suplido, San Carlos Vice Mayor Christopher Paul Carmona for Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, chief executive officer of Connected Women Agnes Gervacio, and vice president for Corporate Services Noreen Marie Vicencio of SaCaSun Power Inc.

Project AIDA aims to give the unemployed, displaced, and disadvantaged workers in the women sector employment with a very flexible work plan and environment, right in their respective homes, the city said in a press release.

Suplido said the program will benefit the selected 100 women from San Carlos and Calatrava, who will undergo a 15-day online comprehensive training focused on structured courses, including data annotation and digital skills, with a daily allowance for the duration of the training.

She added that the training will be from Aug. 1 to 21, excluding weekends.

The sessions will run for three to four hours each day, after which, beneficiaries can apply and start working at home as data annotators, or other IT-related jobs. She thanked the provincial government for funding the program, at P1.2 million each for San Carlos and Calatrava.

Gustilo commended the Aboitiz Foundation, Power and Connected Women for giving the underprivileged women in the city an opportunity to work.

He added that AIDA is not just a project but a transformative force that empowers individuals and enhances the city’s workforce.

Gustilo said he hopes that the project will signal a significant step towards more shared endeavors in the future, as he thanked partners and potential collaborators for their support and commitment to the AIDA project.

The orientation of beneficiaries from both LGUs on Elevate AIDA training, program journey, selection process, and program followed after the MOA signing, led by head of training and resource management Stephanie Lagasca.
