Dumaguete Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo said Sept. 9 that the salaries of about 2,100 qualified job order (JO), casual, and regular employees of the local government will be increased.
Remollo said that JO and casual employees will get a P60 a day across-the-board wage increase starting October, while the regular employees will receive a salary increase retroactive from August to reflect the improvement of Dumaguete from a third class to a second-class city income classification.
The mayor, who announced the good news at the opening salvo of the 124th Philippine Civil Service anniversary celebration at the Presidencia grounds Monday, said he is optimistic about the timely approval of the required appropriation ordinance by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.
He urged officials and employees of the city government to maintain and ensure the prompt delivery of basic social services, and the diligent performance of their tasks, consistent with his good governance advocacy, the city said.
The kickoff ceremony, meanwhile, was also attended by Vice Mayor Ma. Isabel Sagarbarria, councilors Bernice Anne Elmaco, Rey Lyndon Lawas, Jose Victor Imbo, and Antonio Remollo, SK Federation president Miguel Aseniero, department heads, employees, and guests.
Commission on Filipinos Overseas Secretary Romulo Arugay congratulated Remollo and the local government for the tangible development of the city and the efficient delivery of services that benefit the citizens and promote the ideals of civil servants.
As part of the month-long Civil Service celebration, there will be a “Linggo ng Malasakit” outreach program on Sept. 14 at Talay Mental Rehabilitation Center, Casa Esperanza, Dumaguete Youth Home, Casa Miani, for persons with disabilities, and at the Dumaguete City District Jail Male and Female Dormitory.
Other activities include Linggo ng Paglilinang ng Yamang Tao (Public Service Values) on Sept. 18; seminar-workshop on effective technical writing at Foundation University, Sept. 20; international coastal and waterways cleanup, Sept. 21; and culmination program at the City Hall grounds on Sept. 27.
The Civil Service Commission introduced last year a 10-year overarching theme, “Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes”,” the city said, adding that this focuses on the importance of sustainable management for the achievement of future-ready civil service. ||
