A barangay kagawad, included in the drug watchlist of the police, was shot dead by two suspects on motorcycle in Barangay Lopez Jaena, Sagay City, Negros Occidental Thursday, Nov. 12.
Mario Negro, the number one kagawad of Barangay Lopez Jaena in Sagay, was declared dead on arrival at a hospital in the city, the police said.
Follow-up operations of the Sagay police led to the arrest of a certain Marshall Maquimot, a former Special CAFGU or Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit member, and P/Maj. Albert Sy, Sagay City police officer-in-charge, said there are two other persons of interest in the killing of Negro.
He said Negro was categorized as a High Value Individual (HVI) drug personality, and listed in the drug watchlist of the Sagay City Police Station.
Sy disclosed that Negro had previously surrendered during the Oplan Tokhang campaign of the police, but vehemently denied allegations that he was involved in illegal drug activities.
Initial police investigation showed that Negro was on his way home on his tricycle when he was gunned down at Crossing Lopez Jaena in the barangay. The suspects on their motorcycle reportedly followed him from Sagay City poblacion.
Negro succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds, while the suspects fled towards Barangay Bato, also in Sagay.
Responding policemen recovered four empty shells and two deformed slugs of a .45 caliber pistol.
Sy said they are looking into old grudges as among the motives in the killing of Negro. – GPB
