A composite team from the Highway Patrol Group, Traffic Management Office, Special Enforcement Unit, Discipline Zone, the Dumaguete City Police Station, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government conducted another round of road clearing operations, from the Central Business District up to the Looc Bypass Road in Dumaguete City July 12.
City Administrator Lilani Ramon led the enforcers as they issued citation tickets to vehicles, and confiscated items that obstruct the sidewalks so that pedestrians can use them safely and improve the flow of traffic.
Barangay officials also conducted their own road clearing operations in their respective jurisdictions, the city said in a press release.
The DILG has directed local officials to remove various obstructions, encroachments and illegal constructions in public places and on existing road right-of-way, to include sidewalks, road shoulders, and the travel way.
This is pursuant to DILG Memorandum Circular No. 2022-085, directing the city government and barangay officials to enforce no-parking, one-side parking, or other similar strategies to clear the road from all types of obstruction, to ensure the free flow of traffic and the safety of both motorists and pedestrians, in accordance with applicable laws and ordinances. ||
