The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod is urging the Philippine Long Distance Telephone (PLDT) company to install a network access point, or Fibr black box, in the premises of the Bacolod Government Center to ensure reliability of internet connection in various offices of the city government.
The current network access point nearest the BGC is located at Helvetia Subdivision, which is about 300 meters away, Councilor Em Ang, who authored the resolution approved by the SP in its session Nov. 22, said.
She revealed that “the long fiber optic cables in Helvetia are just hanging and exposed right now, prone to damage when hit by passing vehicles and thereby causing internet service in the area to be interrupted.”
There is need to install a Fibr black box at the BGC to ensure that the internet connection being serviced by PLDT is secure, fast, and reliable, the resolution stressed, noting that the reliability of internet connection in fiber optic cables depends on the length of cable from the access point to the junction box of the different offices.
It added that under Republic Act No. 10929, or the Free Internet Access in Public Spaces Act, a fast and reliable internet connection plays a vital role in delivering government services, especially in the present digital age./CGC
