The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod is asking the City Administrator’s Office to reconsider the disqualification of 863 tricycle drivers from receiving the P1,000 fuel subsidy, under City Ordinance 1003.

The SP, in approving the resolution of Councilor Em Ang during its regular session this afternoon, Jan. 24, said “it is just right that the fuel subsidy due to these tricycle drivers be released to the qualified beneficiaries without further delay…considering that all requirements have been complied with at the time of application”.

Ang, who also authored CO 1003, or the Fuel Subsidy Program Ordinance passed by the SP on Aug. 17, 2022, added that the drivers’ documents were evaluated by the Business Permits and Licensing Office (BPLO) before the deadline and expiry of their papers, and found to be valid and in order.

“However, during the counterchecking done by the City Administrator’s Office in Feb. 2023, they were disqualified due to expired documents at the time of counterchecking,” she added, hence the request for reconsideration.

Under the ordinance, qualified drivers shall receive a fuel subsidy of P1,000 in the form of fuel voucher, prepaid card, or cash. It added that there are 5,610 tricycles-for-hire with existing franchise duly registered with the BPLO. | CGC
