Rebel-assassins surrender

The Philippine Army reported yesterday the surrender of two self-confessed assassins of the New People’s Army and two of their comrades to the police and 62nd Infantry Battalion in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental.

Maj. Cenon Pancito, 3rd Infantry Division spokesperson, yesterday said that the four NPA members, who are now under the custody of the City Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (CT-ELCAC), also surrendered two 38 caliber revolvers.

Pancito identified them as Jone Alfuerto, alis Dim, and Deito Ferolino, alias Mar, both members of the NPA Special Partisan Unit under the Leonardo Panaligan Command, Snooky Mejio, who is a member of the Yunit Militia (YM), and Rodrigo Fat, also a YM member as well as a member of Sangay sa Partido sa Lokalidad in Brgy. Humay-Humay, Guihulngan City.

Alfuerto also served as a squad leader of the Sangay ng Yunit Pampropaganda under the Leonardo Panaligan Command Sentro de Grabidad Platoon.

Guihulngan City Mayor Carlo Joan Reyes lauded the decision of the four NPA rebels to abandon the armed struggle and to join two of their comrades and other 25 rebel supporters, who also surrendered to the CT-ELCAC, composed of the 62IB, local police and the local government unit of Guihulngan City.

Reyes said that he is expecting more rebels to surrender, after he received surrender feelers from them.*Gilbert P. Bayoran
