Ramon Torres NHS students win big in 4th Battle of Bots

Students from Ramon Torres National High School (RTNHS) in Bago City won several awards during the 4th Battle of Bots in Bacolod recently, and they presented their medals and certificates to Bago Mayor Nicholas Yulo and Vice Mayor Ramon Torres Oct. 2.

Saimon Lorca of Grade 9-Andromeda emerged as champion in the Sumobot High School Category provincial level, while Eddiel Zane Medez from Grade 7-STE Emerald placed fifth.

John Andrei Laraya, from STE Zircon, won third place in the Sumobot High School Category district level, the city said.

In the Line Tracing High School Category, Ryce Cedrick Oquiana from Grade 7-Amarylis bagged second place in the district level.

Glea Grace Buenafe, from STE-Zircon, won fifth place in the Mission Challenge High School Category provincial level.

Erich Joy Grande and Marciela Valdez, meanwhile, won third place in the Innovative Project Ideas High School Category provincial level for their project “3D WADDY: Delve, Detect, Declare – an Automated Artificial Intelligence Robot for Identifying Irrawaddy Dolphins (Orcaella brevirostris) and Monitoring Coastal Habitat in Bago City”.

Alleiah Joan Yelo and Yvienne Grace Cadayday bagged the fifth spot for their project, entitled “SCORPIM: Specie Conservation and Observation for Retrieval of Waste and Protection of Indigenous Mangroves”, the city added.

Elementary and high school students from all over Negros Occidental participated in the robotics competition that showcased their innovative robotics prowess and programming skills.

The RTNHS students presented their awards to Yulo and Torres at the City Hall, accompanied by OIC principal Mary Jane Araneta and coaches Vimelyn Navales, Jessica Serva, Aries Anne Cordova, Marivic Pendilla, Cynthia Laurente, Wendy Tingson, and Joel Lachica III. ||
