A magnitude 5.4 earthquake that jolted Cebu on Monday, April 6 was also felt in Negros Occidental, although lesser in intensity, based on the report of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Intensity 4 was reported in the cities of Escalante, Sagay and Silay as well as in E.B. Magalona town while Intensity 3 was felt in Victorias City.
It was an Intensity 2 in Toboso and Calatrava along with the cities of La Carlota and Cadiz.
Intensity 1 was recorded by Phivolcs in the cities of Bacolod and Talisay, and also in Pulupandan, Valladolid, Hinigaran, and Isabela towns.
However, no damage was reported as of last night, the PDRRMO said.
Instrumental intensity is measured using the intensity meter that measures ground acceleration.
Phivolcs reported that the tectonic quake struck 17 kilometers southeast of Bogo City at around 3:22 p.m.
Both aftershocks and damage are expected from the earthquake, it added.
Meanwhile, Phivolcs logged another ash emission at Kanlaon Volcano in Negros Island at 6:39 p.m. Monday. | GB
